This is the first blog that I have ever created. Since I am so unfamiliar with it, I have decided to use this first assignment not only as a tool to introduce myself to you, but also as a way to self-reflect.
I have been doing a lot of journaling in the past couple of months. I have recently become a single mother of three (through divorce) and have been writing my feelings in a journal to help guide me on my path to recovery. Some of my journal entries contain thoughts about wanting to return my ex for a refund because the quality of the product was not as great as I was led to believe, while other times, my journal entries are about how blessed my life is.
What I have come to realize is that no matter how much my heart has been broken and how bleak my life has seemed at times, there is always a positive in every situation. My positives are my three wonderful children.
Motherhood has definitely changed me for the better. Don’t get me wrong, life can get extremely interesting and frustrating being a single mother of two girls and a boy, but I wouldn’t change my life for the world. Sometimes at night, I collapse on to the couch and think about my day…the ups and downs, the frustrations and the laughter. Overall, I just think about how lucky I am to be a parent. How thankful I am for everyday that I am blessed to have them in my life, and how even though we all sometimes take things for granted, at that one moment in my day, I really understand how truly blessed I am.

Lisa,
ReplyDeleteParenting is the single most rewarding life experience, bar none. I have been very fortunate to have two wonderful, relatively easy sons to raise, and occassionally, when they have thrown challenges our way (like this summer), I still thank God for giving me such a wonderful family. You have a terrific outlook, despite your current challenges, and your children are so fortunate to have you! -Kelly
Kelly-
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am not a parent, I was raised by my mother when my parents got divorced when I was five. I know she struggled trying to balance my sister and I as well as a full time career (she was a teacher also). We have had talks recently about this course and written expression and she mentioned how she wished she had an outlet to collect her thoughts and process everything that had happened. I think its amazing that you have the view you do about your children and I think journaling is a great way to gather your thoughts and hopefully make the whole experience a little easier to deal with.
Lisa, As the tears run down my face as I read your reflection you are truly an inspiration to mothers everywhere. My ten year old son was very moved when I shared this with him especially where he is an only child and would love to have other siblings. He says you're awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou truly are blessed and I am so impressed that you are launching a book! How exciting. If you read my blog you truly are following your heart and taking action. WoW!
What tips or advice can you give to other moms out there that may be in the same situation and need some inspiration to be as strong as you? How do you balance everyday stuff. What do you do as a mom to inspire your kids to keep striving and helping you on a day in and day out basis? I can't wait to hear from you because I know so many moms will want to model your tips and advice.
Lisa,
ReplyDeleteBonnie asked some great questions that should help you get started on revising your piece. I would add that anecdotal examples of your crazy life might make your entry even more engaging for readers/other moms in similar situations. Examples of moments when your children really take your breath away--and make you realize how lucky you are to be their mom will really get the tears rolling! Good luck!
Bonnnie,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for all of your kind words. I have to say, it is really nice to have someone tell you that you are doing a good job raising your kids, especially when going through a situation that takes it's toll on your emotions. It has been a struggle and that is why I think this might be a great writing piece for me to revise. I think it will help bring some closure and allow me to take a step back to have an outsider's view. I will definitely take your advice to heart. I think I do need to add more specific and personal information as well as inspirational advice. If I can inspire other women who are going through the same difficulties, this assignment will truly be worth it. Please let me know if you have any additional advice for me, especially as I begin to revise.
Kelly,
ReplyDeleteI can absolutely include moments that took my breath away as a mother and moments that made me shake my head and laugh hysterically. Being a mom is so much better if you can find the humor in almost anything.
Hello Mother of the YEAR! I wish I could turn the clock back about 6 years to be like you. Just to have three gorgeous healthy children you are a women to be admired by all.
ReplyDeleteEach day you're with them, they are learning from the most incredible, inspirational mom they could ever have. Tell us what you are teaching them. Even if it is measuring to bake cookies or brownies. It is the "little stuff" in life they love. Keep us posted.
Your biggest fan, Bonnie
Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI am blushing...thank you for all of your kind words.
